Mandy's Story

My battle with breast cancer

Hi my name is Mandy I'm from Wolverhampton. In june this year i discovered a lump in my breast when applying sun cream. I got an appointment with my gp who referred me to the breast care clinic.

Results after the biopsy confirmed i had grade 3 invasive breast cancer. Telling my kids was the hardest thing ever but they have given me strength I needed to go through an operation, and so far 4 rounds out of 6 chemo sessions. Its hard going but im fighting through. Next after chemo is 4 weeks of radiotherapy. You can not prepare yourself to hear those words "I'm sorry but its cancer" so to say i was shocked was an understatement but I have tried to be strong and positive for those around me.

I got in there 1st before chemo took my hair and braved the shave for Macmillan. Listening to music and doing some arts and crafts at home is helping me through this tough time.

I can't imagine what you went through having to tell your kids and at times I imagine you're having to be strong for them, as much as yourself. I've had some poorly health and it's amazing what a difference crafts can make, doing something productive feels very proactive. I wish you all the best in your treatment, hoping and praying for an amazing breakthrough recovery for you.

Thank you Deborah. It was the hardest news i had to tell them. Harder than when me and their dad separated. There is always the fear that i wont be here to watch them grow up but ive learnt to be strong and positive and its mainly for the kids but also for me and my partner too. I dont want cancer to win and i am trying to be as normal i can be. Crafts are brilliant. It stops you thinking about your worries and makes me feel good. I hope you are ok and thank you for your kind words. Lots of love xx

You too Mandy, I'm sure being strong for the kids helps keep you going but as much as possible don't fear not being around, rather cherish each day. Easily said I know, but don't let the circumstance steal your joy.

I hope you will not mind me sharing this story of healing with you, it's a lady I know in church and she had a breakthrough in her health. I'm really conscious of sharing something like this, it's not with an agenda except to give hope. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FPUFx3EPw0
