My battle with Severe Aortic Regurgitation

My name is Becky, I live in North Wales.
When I was 20 years old I got diagnosed with Severe Aortic Regurgitation and Mild dilation of aortic root and ascending aorta of the heart.
At 22 years old I underwent Open Heart Surgery at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. I had a tissue valve replacement and more surgery is planned for my future.
It was a time of my life where I struggled to come to terms with it all and having an 8 inch scar down my chest as well as taking daily medication for the rest of my life was hard to adjust to.
Im proud to say I turned this negative part of my life into my future.
As I struggled finding young adults of similar age to talk to, I set up an Instagram and Facebook page sharing my story, experience and journey to help spread awareness and help people in similar situations to show they aren't alone and they will overcome.
I have also raised £1700 for Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital on Justgiving by amazing donations from fiends, family and other heart patients.
As a hobby I make heart wish bracelets on Etsy and £2 of each bracelet sold is donated to 2 heart charities.
Without my Open Heart surgery I wouldn't be where I am or who I am today, I believe everything happens for a reason no matter.

I'm certain this probably won't help you, but I have many scars due to suicide attempts and after years of trying to cover them up and hating them, I gave up. When you're born your body is a blank canvas, those scars and marks are the painting of your life and experiences on that canvas. You're beautiful, even more so because of your scars. xx

Hi Kerrie, I'm sorry you suffered suicide attempts, I'm glad you've overcome these thoughts and show you scars. Without your past you wouldn't be who you are or where you are without it. Everything happens for a reason, you're a beautiful lady. Thank you for your comment X

That sounds amazing, really turning round a negative circumstance into something positive, I love it. Well done for stepping out and wishing you all the health and happiness in the New Year x
